
Bird Friendly HERO Program for Schools!

Introduction
The Bird Friendly Hero Program is an elementary school level initiative that provides teachers and students with opportunities to learn more about birds. By working through these three modules, and taking action in their school communities, any class can be certified as Bird Friendly Heroes!
In this program we will cover

Bird ID (Level 2): Includes bird
identification of several species
in Ontario including migratory
and resident birds, and bird habitat enhancements (how existing natural, rural, and urban habitats can be enhanced for birds.

Bird Friendly 103
Bird ID (Level 3): Includes advanced bird identification of most Ontario species, emphasizing species-at-risk and invasive species. This level also includes bird habitat conservation, discussions on larger issues facing bird populations, and how best spread awareness.

Take Action!
The Bird Friendly Hero Certification requires one of the following bird-friendly classroom activities, in addition to the completion of all three modules:

Volunteering with bird-friendly organizations approved by BFP

Bird habitat enhancements and modifications for their classroom and/or school
03
Citizen science projects related to birds

Teachers of classrooms that have completed all three modules AND taken action in their community may email evidence of their classrooms bird-friendly actions and confirmation of module completion to info@birdfriendlypeterborough.ca.
